Artificial Cigarette

What exactly will be banned with the new smoking laws on October 1st?
I've heard that they're banning the sale of all flavored cigarettes (except menthol).

I generally smoke plain cigarettes, but when I want flavored tobacco I have something that is marketed as "little cigars". They're exactly like cigarettes except they're a bit longer and have fruit flavor.

Are flavored cigars and "little cigars" getting banned too, or is it just cigarettes? And is sale the only thing getting banned or is possession going to be illegal too?

The bill that Obama happily signed into law in June was HR 1256 Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. The part that refers to flavored tobacco is "Prohibits a cigarette or any of its components from containing as a constituent or additive any artificial or natural flavor (other than tobacco or menthol) or any herb or spice (including strawberry, grape, orange, clove, cinnamon, and vanilla) that is a characterizing flavor of the tobacco product or tobacco smoke."

The bill only targets flavored cigarettes and cigarette tobaccos. Cigars and pipe tobacco are safe---for now. It would be naive to think that they won't be targeted in the future.

So, little cigars will still be okay. The main difference between your little cigars and cigarettes (besides size) is the wrapping paper. If it is a non-tobacco paper, it is considered a cigarette. If the wrapping is made of tobacco leaf or is tobacco-based, it is classified as a cigar.

I don't know whether possession will be a crime. The ban on flavored cigarettes actually went into effect on September 22, 2009.
